A major activity of ARKAT-USA is the organization of the “FloHet” conferences (FloHet 1-11) run on an annual basis since the year 2000 and sponsored by IUPAC. These highly successful conferences regularly attract over 200 delegates from academia and industry and provide a major source of revenue to help defray the publication costs of Arkivoc.

The current format encompasses 11 or 12 plenary lectures given by chemists from academia and industry, all with internationally recognized research profiles, plus five “Short Courses” on topics of current interest to the organic community, with the latter run in parallel with a series of “Invited Lectures.” A poster session involving approximately 50 posters per annum takes place on the first two evenings of the conference with prizes for the best two posters. The meetings, which offer generous hospitality throughout, have proved to be extremely popular and therefore make an important contribution to the furtherance of science and the promotion of Arkivoc.
